BDS and MBChB Entry for 2026
C. R. made this Official Information request to University of Otago
This request has an unknown status. We're waiting for C. R. to read recent responses and update the status.
From: C. R.
Dear University of Otago,
I would like to request a breakdown of the number of students from each hall of residence in 2025 that were offered a place in the MBChB and the BDS for 2026. For example, how many students from Selwyn College, Carrington College etc. got offered a place in MBChB and BDS.
I would also like to request the minimum and maximum grade averages to receive both waitlist and non-waitlist offers to either BDS or MBChB for 2026 from FYHS general category.
Yours faithfully

I refer to your information request dated 13 February 2026 made under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act). You have requested the following information:
I would like to request a breakdown of the number of students from each hall of residence in 2025 that were offered a place in the MBChB and the BDS for 2026. For example, how many students from Selwyn College, Carrington College etc. got offered a place in MBChB and BDS.
I would also like to request the minimum and maximum grade averages to receive both waitlist and non-waitlist offers to either BDS or MBChB for 2026 from FYHS general category.
The Act requires that we advise you of our decision on your request no later than 20 working days after the date your request was received/clarified. Unfortunately, it will not be possible to meet that time limit. We are therefore writing to notify you, pursuant to section 15A of the Act, of an extension of the time to make our decision in respect of your request, by a further 20 working days – to Tuesday 14 April 2026. However, we will endeavour to provide the information sooner if possible. Please note that “working days” is as defined in the Act and excludes public holidays.
This extension is necessary to allow for consultations necessary to make a decision on your request. We thank you for your patience.
If you are not satisfied with our extension of time, you have the right to make a complaint to the Ombudsman under section 28(3) of the Act. However, we would welcome the opportunity to discuss any concerns with you first.
Ngâ mihi
