Retirement Announcement from Deputy Commissioner Tania Kura
On November 2nd 2025 it wil be 5 years since I took up the role of Deputy Commissioner. It’s
with that milestone in mind that I have decided the time is right for me to retire and look at life
beyond policing.
Over the past 38 years, I’ve enjoyed a wide range of roles, always focused on caring for people
and helping those around me fulfil their potential. There are far too many people to thank
individually, but I want to acknowledge everyone who has made this journey so worthwhile. I’ve
had the privilege of policing in some incredible communities and working alongside many
fantastic people in Canterbury, Central, Southern, Bay of Plenty, and Eastern Districts, as wel as at
the Royal New Zealand Police Col ege and, most recently, at Police National Headquarters.
As I step into retirement, I’m fil ed with excitement for what lies ahead. I’m looking forward to
spending more time with friends and whānau, exploring old and new places through travel, and
embracing what I hope wil be at least 20 good summers.
I wil be taking leave from the end of August.
Thank you for the memories, the challenges, the growth, and the unwavering support. There is no
doubt this has been a fulfil ing, challenging, and unbelievably rewarding career.
Hei konā mai,
Tania Kura

Hi s9(2)(a)
I’ve picked up an error in this version - it says she notified the GG in “November last
year”. Whereas she notified the GG yesterday that she would retire in November this year.
Cheers
Heather
