2024 HSFY Grade Averages re-inquiry

TK made this Official Information request to University of Otago

This request has an unknown status. We're waiting for TK to read a recent response and update the status.

From: TK

Dear University of Otago,

This is a new request asking for information that was ignored from the previous request dated over 3 months ago. I am re-requesting this information as the message below details.

x-----x
I am requesting the distribution of HSFY grade averages for 2024. This is in reference to the top 7 paper academic score used for admissions into professional programs. Please report figures to full accuracy (i.e. 2dp).
x-----x
Please note that this request is NOT about distribution of individual (HSFY) papers.
Rather, it is requesting the distribution of individual HSFY academic scores to 2d.p. from 2024 which are used for admission criteria into professional pathways 2025, e.g. BDS, MBChB, etc.
Please provide clear instructions on how to find this information on the website [ https://www.otago.ac.nz/about/quickstats... ] if it is present there.
x-----x

Yours faithfully,

TK

From: UoO - Official Information Act
University of Otago

Tçnâ koe TK

I refer to your request for information dated 3 July 2025 made under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act). As you note this is the same information you requested on 20 March 2025.

As advised in our response of 17 April 2025 to your request of 20 March 2025, anonymised statistical academic results data for papers offered by the University are now published on our website: https://www.otago.ac.nz/about/quickstats. We do this so that all students can access this information at any time. The data excludes information we would withhold under section 9(2)(a) of the Act, to protect the privacy and wellbeing of students. Further information on the University’s 'Proactive Release Policy for Academic Results' is available here: https://www.otago.ac.nz/administration/p....

The further information you have requested is not contained in existing reports held by the University. Detailed statistical analysis of results, such as by particular cohorts, programmes or categories, can only be created by a small team within the University applying specialised and complex skills. On past occasions where we may have provided this information, we did so because it was incidental to collating and providing the underlying grade and mark information held. This is no longer the case, as the underlying grade and mark information is now publicly available.

Accordingly, we decline to provide the requested information as the information would need to be created, and is not held, under section 18(g) of the Act. However, we hope the information which is now publicly available will be useful.

If you are not satisfied with our response to your information request, section 28(3) of the Act provides you with the right to ask an Ombudsman to investigate and review this response. However, we would welcome the opportunity to discuss any concerns with you first.
