This request has an unknown status. We're waiting for Will Bruce to read a recent response and update the status.
From: Will Bruce
Dear New Zealand Security Intelligence Service,
Under the Official Information Act 1982, I request the following information:
1. Any intelligence assessments, briefings, or reports produced by NZSIS since 1 January 2023 regarding:
* Threats to NZ’s national security or social cohesion linked to the Israel-Palestine conflict.
* Foreign interference in NZ (e.g., by Israel, Palestine, or allied states) related to lobbying, disinformation, or activism.
* Surveillance or risk analyses of NZ-based groups (pro-Palestine, pro-Israel, or other) in connection with the conflict.
2. Records of communications between NZSIS and other government agencies (e.g., MFAT, DPMC, Police) about protests, hate crimes, or extremism tied to Israel-Palestine.
3. Any NZSIS guidelines on classifying Palestine-related activism as a security concern (e.g., monitoring criteria, definitions of 'extremism').
I acknowledge that some information may be withheld under Sections 6 or 9 of the OIA for security reasons. However, I request that any available non-classified summaries or redacted versions be provided. Please respond within 20 working days.
Yours faithfully,
Will Bruce

Kia ora Will
We refer to your official information request of 11 May 2025 as set out below.
It will not be possible to meet the 20-working day time limit required by the Official Information Act and we are, therefore, writing to notify you of an extension of the time to make our decision, to 22 July 2025. This extension is necessary because the consultations needed to make a decision on your request are such that a proper response cannot reasonably be made within the original time limit. We will of course provide our response sooner than 22 July if practicable.
If you wish to discuss any aspect of your request with us, including this decision, please feel free to contact [NZSIS request email].
You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman of this decision. Information about how to make a complaint is available at www.ombudsman.parliament.nz or freephone 0800 802 602.
Ngâ mihi
NZSIS
