Why only 220 Covid-19 Booster Exemptions were given to 2,306 vaccinated Corrections Staff who had contracted Covid-19. Corrections
Colin Whiting made this Official Information request to Department of Corrections
Currently waiting for a response from Department of Corrections, they must respond promptly and normally no later than (details and exceptions).
From: Colin Whiting
Dear Department of Corrections,
In a recent reply to an OIA request, it was stated that 2,306 vaccinated Corrections staff (working behind the wire) were granted Special Covid-19 leave between 22nd November 2021 and 2nd July 2022.
https://fyi.org.nz/request/29448/respons...
This information followed on from a previous OIA request that stated.
"prior to 15 May 2022, staff who tested positive for COVID-19 were unable to return to work inside the security perimeter of a prison for up to three months without a Ministry of Health temporary medical exemption"
"169 Corrections staff members were granted a temporary medical exemption by the
Director General of the Ministry of Health prior to 15 May 2022. No staff were unsuccessful in being granted a temporary medical exemption."
https://fyi.org.nz/request/25058/respons...
The above OIA request followed on from another previous OIA request that stated.
"In accordance with clause 7A, The Chief Executive authorised 220 Corrections staff to return to work following their recovery from Covid-19."
https://fyi.org.nz/request/24455-the-num...
I would therefore like the Department of Corrections to explain that out of the 2,306 vaccinated Corrections staff who had contracted Covid-19, why only 220 staff were required to undertake the process of receiving a Covid-19 Booster Exemption for their return to work?
(factoring in the 169 exemptions from the Director General of the Ministry of Health prior to 15 May 2022, and those later authorised by the Chief Executive from 15 May 2022 until 2 July 2022.)
Yours faithfully,
Colin Whiting
