Your request for official information, reference: HNZ00075234
Thank you for your email on 13 December 2024, which was transferred to Health New
Zealand | Te Whatu Ora on 8 January 2025 asking for the following under the Official
Information Act 1982 (the Act):
For the last 5 years, please provide monthly GP & nurse visits by PHO. Annual data
was provided in the data request "data on patients enrolled at all GP practices, number
of visits and booking delays".

If there are further details on visits, i.e. gender, ethnic group (Maori, Pacific, etc.), or
age group, please provide this as well
Response
Please note that the data provided is provisional and used for operational purposes. It has not
been through the full quality assurance process that we use before publishing data and
therefore is subject to change.
Published data may differ from the provisional data presented here. Published data should be
considered the most accurate source and used where possible

The information requested has been provided in the attached Excel spreadsheet (Appendix
1) and covers the number of visits by month for both General Practitioners and Nurses for
each Primary Health Organisation (PHO). This is broken down into four tabs; Total visits, Age
bands, Ethnicity and Gender, for calendar years from April 2019 until September 2024 (the
most recent report).

We are not releasing information prior to April 2019 as the data quality decreases due to
missing entries and changes to the PHO Services Agreement which increased timeliness and
completeness of reporting.

Please note in the data provided, one patient/enrol ee can have multiple visits per year.

In the Age band data (Tab 2); apart from the Under 5’s we are providing the age bands in ten-
year groupings to reduce the possibility of a patient being able to be identified.  We are doing
this pursuant to section 9(2)(a) of the Act to protect the privacy of natural persons. Including
those deceased.

We have considered whether the need to protect this information is outweighed by the
countervailing public interest and have determined that it is not.

As with the previous official information request (HNZ00013055) please note we do not hold
data for other health-related General Practitioner or Nurse Practitioner-attended consultations
such as maternity, Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC), immunisation, casual visits, all
after-hours consultations, etc. Provision of this data is therefore refused under section 18(e) of
the Act, as the information does not exist.

In addition, please note:
