Guardianship Termination

Wiremu Bayliss made this Official Information request to Oranga Tamariki—Ministry for Children

The request was partially successful.

From: Wiremu Bayliss

Dear Child Youth and Family,

I have been made aware of at least three cases where guardianship of biological parents has been fully terminated. While I am not after specifics relating to the cases, I am wondering under what circumstances this is done, what sections of the legislation this is done under and the what this means for the children this applies too?

For example, does this mean that the caregiving families who are or may be additional guardians in this case are able to adopt that child? If not, why not?

Yours faithfully,

Wiremu Bayliss
