Dear John,

I refer to your request of 18 February. The University’s response follows.

“May I ask have you called for public nomination on any other platform
e.g. govt.jobs website. Also, how many applications you have received from
the public and how many you have received from other nominating agencies
such as TPK or Ministry of women etc. Also, what would be the process look
like and when the nomination period ends. Further, may I kindly request a

Council calls for expressions of interest from persons who consider they
meet the attributes required to fill one of the following positions:

 1. One person, being Māori and able to advise Council on issues relevant
to Māori
 2. One person being an alumnus of the University of Auckland
 3. Two persons able to provide skills specified by Council, to be
appointed by Council

The last time Council called for expressions of interest was in 2019 for:
One person, being Māori and able to advise Council on issues relevant to
Māori. An advertisement was placed twice (on 03.09.2019 and 17.09.2019) in
the NZ Herald, Otago Daily Times, and via Stuff in the Dominion Post,
Waikato Times and The Press. The call for expressions of Interest opened
on 03.09.2019 and closed on 09.10.2019. Five applications were received
but one candidate withdrew. No candidates were received from nominating
agencies. After review of the applications by a shortlisting sub-committee
of Council on 20.11.2019, Council appointed the selected candidate at its
meeting of 09.12.2019.

Please find attached the text of the advertisement.

Yours sincerely,
