2023 Meshblock Populations

Adam Ward made this Official Information request to Statistics New Zealand

This request has an unknown status. We're waiting for Adam Ward to read a recent response and update the status.

From: Adam Ward

Dear Statistics New Zealand,

Please could you provide usually resident population counts by 2023 Meshblock boundary as of the March 2023 Census. In previous census outputs this information has been publicly released without small cell suppression or random rounding to base three (which tends to upwardly bias population estimates).

If this information will be released as part of the standard census data publication please feel free to ignore this request.

Yours faithfully,

Dr Adam Ward

Tēnā koe Dr Ward

I refer to your OIA request below.

This email is to advise about availability of geographic level data for
2023 Census.

For 2023 Census, Statistical area 1 (SA1) is our official smallest
geography and data is available within [1]Aotearoa data explorer, our free
online tool. In previous years, Census data at meshblock level was
available free of charge. However, this is not the case for the 2023
Census.

For customers who need information at lower geographic level than SA1, the
2023 Census meshblock dataset is now available as a bespoke product, at a
cost of $620+gst. The dataset contains counts at Meshblock (MB) level by
selected variables, from the 2023, 2018, and 2013 censuses. Geographies
correspond to 2023 boundaries and a concordance is included. Some
information on this is attached. Please note that any further variation of
the tables will be a customised job which is chargeable. The tables are
.CSV format.

If you wish to receive the bespoke 2023 Census meshblock dataset at a cost
of $620+gst, please respond to this email to confirm. I can then put you
in contact with the appropriate team at Stats NZ.

Ngā mihi
