Make TPPA public

Patricia de Muth made this Official Information request to Minister of Trade

Response to this request is long overdue. By law Minister of Trade should have responded by now (details and exceptions). The requester can complain to the Ombudsman.

From: Patricia de Muth

Dear Minister of Trade,

Please make public the full text of the Trans Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPPA).

My understanding is that the TPPA could make New Zealand, its current and future citizens, vulnerable to multinational corporations (and their desire for profits) and/or other governments; at the expense of our welfare, environment, natural resources and possibly our sovereignty. It is our nations future that is at risk and all citizens have the right to be sure we are not defenceless as a result of the agreement, especially in the small print and loopholes. This could be dispelled by the public having access to the full agreement to see for themselves.

By keeping the TPPA negotiations behind closed door the more distrust and unease I, as a New Zealander, feel about TPPA.

Yours faithfully,

Patricia de Muth

On behalf of Hon Tim Groser, thank you for your email.  Your
correspondence has been noted and will be recorded.

All correspondence, including email,  is routed through our mail tracking
process.  Although e-mail increases the speed of delivery, the
“behind-the-scenes” efforts of the Minister’s staff in responding to
mail cannot always provide the kind of speedy response users of email may
anticipate.

While the Minister considers all correspondence to be important, if it is
obvious that you are writing only to express a personal view your opinion
will be noted but a response beyond this acknowledgement may not be sent.

Thank you again.
