Re: redundancies and payouts 
 
I refer to your email, which we received on  11 May 2023, requesting information about 
redundancies and pay-outs at Eke Panuku. 
 
Your request and our response are below. 
 
I am emailing a lgoima regarding redundancies and pay-outs made by your 
organization over the past three financial years.  Can you please provide the following 
information: 
 
The total number of employees who were made redundant, categorized by 

compulsory and voluntary redundancies. 
 
The below were all compulsory redundancies  
 
July 2019 – June 2020 

July 2020 – June 2021 
19 
July 2021 – June 2022 

 
The total amount paid out as redundancy pay, including both compulsory and 

discretionary payments. 
 
July 2019 – June 2020 
$284,315.02 
July 2020 – June 2021 
$564,303.57 
July 2021 – June 2022 
$127,654.17 
 
For each compulsory redundancy, please provide the following information: 

 
The number of cases where the employee was eligible for payment of pension. 

We do not determine individual’s eligibility for pension.  
 
The amount paid out as statutory redundancy payment. 

New Zealand employment legislation does not provide a requirement for redundancy 
compensation. Al  redundancy payments included above are in accordance with relevant 
employment agreements.

The amount paid out as discretionary redundancy payment.

The age of the employee in bands of 5 years, such as 55-60, 60-65, 65-70, over 70. 

In addition, please provide the number of cases where the employee was eligible for 
payment of pension for each voluntary redundancy. 
 
To protect individuals privacy, we have grouped age groups together, over the three financial 
years, 20 individuals were under 65 and 6 were 65 and over.  Please note these numbers 
are based on individuals current age, not that on termination of employment.  
 
The decision by Auckland Council to release the information contained in this response was 
made by David Rankin, Chief Executive Eke Panuku Development Auckland.
