Dear Department of Corrections,

Thank you for your recent reply,- C164842

I noted you said you have only 2 Corrections wing patron during these period of time. So how many corrections wing you have during the same time, are you saying you have some wing that doesn't have a patron? If so, can you please provide which wing don't have a patron. Do you have any upcoming wing that looking for patron?

Yours faithfully,

john luke

Our apologies for the delayed response in relation to your query about Wings Patrons:

"I noted you said you have only 2 Corrections wing patron during these period of time. So how many corrections wing you have during the same time, are you saying you have some wing that doesn't have a patron? If so, can you please provide which wing don't have a patron. Do you have any upcoming wing that looking for patron?"

We have interpreted your reference to ‘wings’ as cohorts. In the past the patrons have been allocated to a cohort of new staff who are training as Corrections Officers. Patrons are people who have a key community perspective and mentor new recruits and share their core values including the importance of integrity, teamwork, and leadership. They are encouraged to stay connected with their cohort once the recruits return to the frontline. The patron role is a volunteer role.

Not all cohorts have patrons assigned to them, and I am advised there are currently no active cohorts with patrons allocated. In the timeframe between June 2021 – February 2023 there were 18 cohorts two of which were assigned Patrons.

To reiterate from our previous response, presently, we rely on the public approaching us for any public nominations for a Patron role. Between the date ranges that you have specified, we did not receive any public nominations. As mentioned in our October 2019 correspondence, the general public are welcome to put forward nominations.
