Thank you for contacting Hon Kelvin Davis, Minister of Corrections,
Minister for Mâori Crown Relations: Te Arawhiti, Minister for Children,
Associate Minister of Education (Mâori), and MP for Te Tai Tokerau.

The Minister considers all correspondence important and appreciates you
taking the time to write.

Please note that as Minister Davis receives a large amount of
correspondence, it is not always possible to personally reply to all
emails.

The following guidelines apply:

-Invitations and requests to meet with the Minister will be processed as
soon as possible and a staff member will be in contact with you in due
course.

-Media queries will be responded to by a staff member.

-Requests for official information will be managed in accordance with the
provisions of the Official Information Act 1982, which may include
transfer to a more relevant Minister or agency.

-If your email falls outside of the Minister's portfolio responsibilities,
expresses a personal view, or is copied to multiple Members of Parliament,
then your opinion will be noted and your correspondence may be transferred
to another office, or there may be no further response to you.

-If your correspondence is to the Minister as the Member of Parliament for
Te Tai Tokerau, this will be referred to the electorate office.

(If your invitation or meeting request is accepted - please note
information about meetings related to the Ministers’ portfolios will be
proactively released (this does not include personal or constituency
matters). For each meeting in scope, the summary would list: date, time
(start and finish), brief description, location, who the meeting was with,
and the portfolio. If you attend a meeting with the Minister on behalf of
an organisation, the name of the organisation will be released. If you are
a senior staff member at an organisation, or meet with the Minister in
your personal capacity, your name may also be released. The location of
the meeting will be released, unless it is a private residence. The
proactive release will be consistent with the provisions in the Official
Information Act, including privacy considerations. Under the Privacy Act
1993 you have the right to ask for a copy of any personal information we
hold about you, and to ask for it to be corrected if you think it is
wrong. If you’d like to ask for a copy of your information, or to have it
corrected, or are concerned about the release of your information in the
meeting disclosure, please contact the sender. You can read more about the
proactive release policy at

Tçnâ koe James

Thank you for your official information requests received on 12 December
2022 and 13 December 2022, for the following information:

All correspondence/communications including but not limited to texts,
emails and phone calls between yourself/your office and Matthew Tukaki
regarding Mr Tukaki's appointment to the Oranga Tamariki Ministerial
Advisory Board, this covers the period Mr Tukaki was first considered and
approached as a possibility for the role, until 05/02/2021.

Please provide all information and communications including but not
limited to emails ,texts and phone calls relating to any special
conditions/requests/clauses that were added to Mr Tukaki's contract terms,
such as the ability and right to continue with other obligations and
employment while on the advisory board.

Please confirm if any other board member requested or had similar terms
added to their contracts. If so, please provide details.

Please provide all details, and communications including but not limited
to emails, texts and phone calls if any conflicts or perceived conflicts
of interest were declared to you by Ministerial Board Members as required
to do so.

And

Regarding Matthew Tukaki, and as per 1News you are quoted as saying the
following:

“So we just trusted in what they had done, and I'd heard about the stuff
he'd done apparently overseas. He was also the head of the Mâori Council,”

Under the Offical Information Act and l request the following:

All communications including but not limited to emails, texts and phone
calls with the Mâori Council concerning Matthew Tukaki from January 1st
2019 until 13th December 2022.

All communications including but not limited to emails, texts and phone
calls between yourself/your office and Minister Willie Jackson/Jackson’s
office concerning Matthew Tukaki from January 1st 2019 until 13th December
2022.

I write to advise you that we will need to need to extend the time limit
for responding to you by 10 working days, to Tuesday 14 February 2023.
This extension is necessary as the nature of both of your requests
requires additional consultation with former staff members in order to
compile the information required, such that a proper response cannot
reasonably be made within the original time frame (section 15A(1)(b) of
the OIA refers).

However, if this consultation is completed before Tuesday 14 February
2023, the response to both requests will be sent to you as soon as
possible.

You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman of
this decision by contacting [1]www.ombudsman.parliament.nz or freephone
0800 802 602.
