Kia ora,
On behalf of Hon Kris Faafoi, thank you for your email.
While the Minister considers all correspondence to be important, and all
messages are carefully read and considered, it is not always possible to
personally reply to all emails. As such, the following guidelines apply:
· Invitations and meeting requests will be processed as soon as
possible and a staff member will be in contact with you in due course
· All media queries will be responded to by a staff member
· Requests for official information will be managed in accordance
with the provisions of the Official Information Act 1982, which may
include transfer to a more relevant Minister or agency
· If your email falls outside of the Minister’s portfolio
responsibilities, expresses a personal view, or is copied to multiple
Members of Parliament, then your opinion will be noted and your
correspondence may be transferred to another office, or there may be no
further response to you
Thank you for the taking the time to write.
Nga mihi,
Office of Hon Kris Faafoi

Dear Broadcasting,
I find it implausible that the New Zealand government has no information or that no information is held by any agency or Minister in regards to social media influencers paid by the government.
Please confirm this is the case.
Yours sincerely,
S Robinson

Thanks Shaun, as noted in the letter it is likely the details of each social media account is held by the respective agency or Minister.

Dear Kris Faafoi,
I appreciate as someone with dyslexia I can sometimes misinterpret the written world, however, your response is very ambiguous.
The latest response I received states:
"Thanks Shaun, as noted in the letter it is LIKELY the details of each social media account is held by the respective agency or Minister." This contradicts what is said in the letter. "The information you have requested is NOT HELD BY MY OFFICE. In circumstances such as this, I would transfer this request to an agency or Minister that I consider likely to hold the information. However, I DO NOT BELIEVE THAT THIS INFORMATION IS HELD BY ANY SINGLE ENTITY. Instead, I believe it is likely the details of each social media account is HELD BY THE RESPECTIVE AGENCY OR MINISTER."
I also asked “If this information is not held by your office please advise which office and/or entity does and kindly transfer for their response.” The response I received was "As above, I DO NOT BELIEVE ANY SINGLE ENTITY OR OFFICE HOLDS THIS INFORMATION, therefore I cannot transfer your request."
So which is it - "it is likely the details of each social media account is held by the respective agency or Minister."
or
"I do not believe any single entity or office holds this information....?"
A rudimentary search of NZ media articles and previous OIA's show the government does incentivise/pay social media influencers. So am I being told that the government no longer does this? Or that if they still do they just have no records of them?
I'll rephrase the question in an attempt to clear any vagueness.
Could the Minister for Broadcasting and Media provide the handles/user name/screen name/account name of all accounts that the government directly and/or indirectly remunerates/incentivises/influences and/or commissions on all social media platforms, including, but not limited to Twitter, Meta/Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn. Please include all local and overseas connections.
If this information is not held by your office please advise which Minister/agency/office and/or entity does and kindly transfer for their response.
With respect to our time and the taxpayers money could I please have a clear answer without the semantics please?
Yours faithfully,
S Robinson
