NZDF Flight passenger information from Pacific Islands

Fi made this Official Information request to New Zealand Defence Force

This request has an unknown status. We're waiting for Fi to read recent responses and update the status.

From: Fi

Dear New Zealand Defence Force,

Has the NZDF ever used a NZDF aircraft or watercraft to transport any New Zealand citizen, as a passenger, from the "Pacific Islands" region back to New Zealand between 1 Jan 2018 and 1 January 2022. Excluding NZDF, police, and emergency medical or disaster relief efforts personnel. If so, what were the reasons for the passenger to use the NZDF asset as a form of travel. Who authorized the travel. What was the date and time of travel.

Yours faithfully,
Fi

Good morning Fi,

Please be aware that New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) aircraft may be used
to transport New Zealand Government officials, their staff, and other VIPs
(for example foreign government officials and dignitaries) when suitable
commercial options are unavailable. Members of the NZDF and their families
may also travel on scheduled Royal New Zealand Air Force flights if there
is space available.

Given the time period covered by your request, searches are continuing to
identify whether or not any other persons may have travelled during the
four year period you have requested.  A response will be provided as soon
as possible and no later than 10 May 2022. However, if you are aware of a
particular instance when someone may have travelled on a particular date,
please provide us with relevant information that can facilitate a targeted
search.

You have a right, under section 28(3) of the OIA, to ask an Ombudsman to
review this notice of an extension to the timeframe for a response to your
request.

Kind regards
