Student entry fee for all NCEA standards

Thank you for your request of 16 July 2014, under the Official Information Act 1982, seeking a breakdown of the domestic student entry fee for all NCEA standards.

The New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) introduced a single fee for entry into NCEA and three New Zealand Scholarship subjects for domestic students in 2005.

NZQA has held the NCEA fee (excluding the GST increase from 12.5 per cent to 15 percent in 2010) since 2005 to minimise the financial burden on students, parents and caregivers.

The $66.70 fee (excluding GST) currently represents a 33 per cent contribution to NCEA direct costs. The direct costs include: examination settings; marking; printing and or sorting; holding examinations; distributing examination papers; secondary school moderation; processional development and support; school liaison; and quality assurance and support.

I'm not really happy with this response. They haven't broken down how the money is spent, they have provided a list of services that NZQA provides which is public knowledge.

I also have an issue with the fact that students who do not sit external exams are still charged a cost recovery for students who do.
