Safety of the Comirnaty/ Pfizer injection
Erika Whittome made this Official Information request to Ministry of Health
Response to this request is long overdue. By law Ministry of Health should have responded by now (details and exceptions). The requester can complain to the Ombudsman.
From: Erika Whittome
Dear Ministry of Health,
Globally the infection fatality rate for Covid-19 is less than 1 percent from WHO on page 4 for those under 70 years https://www.who.int/bulletin/volumes/99/...
NZ has 44 deaths with Covid-19 as of 9 Dec 2021:
https://www.health.govt.nz/our-work/dise....
There are 117 deaths post Comirnaty on Medsafe’s latest safety report dated 20 Nov 2021 https://www.medsafe.govt.nz/COVID-19/saf... .
The Comirnaty medicine has killed more than the virus itself in NZ.
Where exactly is the criteria for safety or pharmacovigilance for Comirnaty stated?
Mr Tim Hanlon lists himself on LinkedIn as the "Covid-19 Vaccination Programme Lead/Group Manager for Post Event (Pharmocoviligance, Vaccine Effectiveness and Population Protection) at the MoH. Would he please respond to this OIA request?
Is the MoH taking guidance from Pfizer on Comirnaty's safety? Or do they have their own safety criteria? I see Pfizer agreement has been kept secret by the government in this official information request. https://fyi.org.nz/request/17050-request...
What is the MoH's definition of "safe" please?
Yours faithfully,
Erika Whittome

Thank you for your email. Please find responses to your request below.
Where exactly is the criteria for safety or pharmacovigilance for
Comirnaty stated?
Medsafe does not have a set 'threshold' where if reached, a particular
vaccination approval will be revoked. Further information on
the Medsafe approval process can be found at:
* [1]www.medsafe.govt.nz/Consumers/Safety-of-Medicines/Medicines-Safety-and-Pharmacovigilance.asp

Is the MoH taking guidance from Pfizer on Comirnaty's safety? Or do they
have their own safety criteria?
Medsafe publishes up to date information regarding the Comirnaty vaccine,
including its clinical efficacy and safety:

following links may also be useful to you:

* The Ministry also regularly updates the Science News page for up to
date information regarding COVID-19 and the Vaccine:

What is the MoH's definition of "safe" please?
Medsafe assesses medicine and vaccine applications against internationally
established criteria. The stringent requirements vaccines must meet in
order to be approved remain in place under emergency circumstances, such
as the COVID-19 pandemic. Medsafe has found that the benefits of
vaccination with the Pfizer vaccine continue to greatly outweigh the risk
of both COVID-19 infection and vaccine side effects. More information
about the vaccine evaluation and approval process can be found at the link
in the above paragraph.
Under section 28(3) of the Act you have the right to ask the Ombudsman to
review any decisions made under this request. The Ombudsman may be
contacted by email at: [6][email address] or by calling 0800
802 602.
