Maxwell made this Official Information request to Ministry of Health

The request was refused by Ministry of Health.

Dear Ministry of Health,

I write as a New Zealand citizen.

The Covd-19 vaccine administration programme has included several types of incentives to encourage vaccination across New Zealand; including prizes, giveaways, celebrity appearances, entertainment and competitions, e.g. https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/covid-19-d....

Can you please supply the total budget or funding amount(s) allocated by the Ministry of Health or related agencies towards any of the following incentives summarised by DHB (both allocated funds and/or recovered costs) where possible:

- prizes: cash/vouchers, consumer goods, etc
- giveaways: cash/vouchers, consumer goods, etc
- entertainment: fees for hired performers, celebrity appearance fees, etc
- endorsements: non-government social media influencer fees, non-government celebrity endorsement fees

Yours faithfully,

Maxwell

Thank you for your request under the Official Information Act 1982 (the
Act) to the Ministry of Health (the Ministry) on 10 December 2021 for:

“The total budget or funding amount(s) allocated by the Ministry of Health
or related agencies towards any of the following incentives summarised by
DHB (both allocated funds and/or recovered costs) where possible:

- prizes: cash/vouchers, consumer goods, etc

- giveaways: cash/vouchers, consumer goods, etc

- entertainment: fees for hired performers, celebrity appearance fees, etc

- endorsements: non-government social media influencer fees,
non-government celebrity endorsement fees”

The Ministry does not directly fund any incentives for getting vaccinated.
However, please note that the Ministry has distributed vaccination-related
funding to other agencies, such as the Ministry for Ethnic Communities.
These agencies may have then provided funding to community organisations
that offer incentives for getting vaccinated. You may wish to seek further
information from the Ministry for Ethnic Communities
at: [1]www.ethniccommunities.govt.nz/resources-2/the-official-information-act/.

It is also possible that the district health boards (DHBs) have provided
funding for vaccination incentives. If you wish to seek further
information from them, you can find their websites
at: [2]www.health.govt.nz/new-zealand-health-system/key-health-sector-organisations-and-people/district-health-boards/district-health-board-websites.

Two written parliamentary questions regarding spending on vaccination
advertising on social media have been lodged at the following links:

o [3]www.parliament.nz/en/pb/order-paper-questions/written-questions/document/WQ_55976_2021/55976-2021-chris-bishop-to-the-minister-for-covid-19

Therefore, your request for information regarding social media spending is
refused under section 18(d), as the information requested will soon be
publicly available.

Under section 28(3) of the Act you have the right to ask the Ombudsman to
review any decisions made under this request. The Ombudsman may be
contacted by email at: [5][email address] or by calling 0800
802 602.

Please note that this response, with your personal details removed, may be
published on the Ministry website
at: [6]www.health.govt.nz/about-ministry/information-releases/responses-official-information-act-requests.
