From: Carl Langan

Dear OIA Privacy (NZSIS),

Thank you for your reply dated 18 May 2021 to my Official Information Act request related to international travel costs incurred by NZSIS.

The scope of my request was purely financial in nature - I was not asking for details regarding international travel destinations or for details of the purposes of such travel.

Other government departments, including the Ministry of Defence, have provided details of their international travel expenditure.

As such I do not believe you have grounds to deny my request under section 6(a) of the Official Information Act.

Please reconsider my request or I will lay a complaint with the Ombudsman. The secret nature of your work does not mean how you utilise public money should be beyond scrutiny.

Yours sincerely,

Carl Langan

Dear Carl

As requested in your email of 22 May 2021, the NZSIS has reconsidered the response to your OIA request for information about international travel expenditure.

We remain of the view that disclosure of this type of information would likely prejudice the security or defence of New Zealand or the international relations of the Government of New Zealand.

If you don't agree with this decision, you are entitled to refer this matter to the Ombudsman for further review.

Kind regards
NZSIS
