Shortages of Materials in House Building Industry
Matthew Hooton made this Official Information request to Megan Woods
The request was successful.
From: Matthew Hooton
Dear Megan Woods,
My OIA request is prompted by this report in the NZ Herald: https://www.nzherald.co.nz/business/hous...
I am sure you will agree this is a matter of very high public interest and I ask that my request be treated as urgent.
Under the OIA, I request information on all advice you, or your officials, have received since your appointment as Minister of Housing on possible and/or actual shortages of materials required for building houses in New Zealand.
Such materials include but are not limited to timber, concrete, cement, plaster, home and appliances.
By advice, I mean formal written advice based on data collection and analysis. But I also include more informal advice, including verbal advice, and that based on anecdote.
You or your officials may have become aware of such advice in other capacities, such as a member of the Labour Party caucus or in their private capacities, which are not covered by the OIA. However, in becoming aware of such advice in those capacities, you also became aware of it in your ministerial and official capacities and so my request covers such advice.
Thank you for your attention to this important matter, which will help inform my political columns in the NZ Herald and Metro magazine, and also - as a result of its publication on fyi.org.nz - help inform the New Zealand building industry and therefore help in private-sector planning to alleviate what the Deputy Prime Minister has called New Zealand's ongoing housing crisis.
Yours sincerely
Matthew Hooton
