In respect to Character requirements contained at A5 of the Operations Manual.
Could we please have the statistics for the past 3 years (financial July/June) 2018-2019, 2019-2020 ,2020-2021.

1. The total number of applicants who were granted a character waiver in relation to a drink driving conviction as part of a residence application.

2. The total number of applicants who were declined a character waiver in relation to a drink driving conviction as part of a residence application.

3. The total number of applicants who were granted a character waiver in relation to a drink driving conviction as part of a Temporary visa application.

4. The total number of applicants who were declined a character waiver in relation to a drink driving conviction as part of a Temporary visa application.

Hi Rachel,

 

Thank you for your email dated 23 March 2021 requesting under the Official
Information Act 1982 (the OIA), the following information:

 

“In respect to Character requirements contained at A5 of the Operations
Manual. Could we please have the statistics for the past 3 years
(financial July/June) 2018-2019, 2019-2020 ,2020-2021.

 

1. The total number of applicants who were granted a character waiver in
relation to a drink driving conviction as part of a residence application.

 

2. The total number of applicants who were declined a character waiver in
relation to a drink driving conviction as part of a residence application.

 

3. The total number of applicants who were granted a character waiver in
relation to a drink driving conviction as part of a Temporary visa
application.

 

4. The total number of applicants who were declined a character waiver in
relation to a drink driving conviction as part of a Temporary visa
application.”

 

Under Section 12 of The OIA, requests can only be made by;

Any person, being-

(a) a New Zealand citizen; or

(b) a permanent resident of New Zealand; or

(c) a person who is in New Zealand; or

(d) a body corporate which is incorporated in New Zealand; or

(e) a body corporate which is incorporated outside of new Zealand but
which has a place of business in New Zealand,

may request a department or Minister of the Crown or organisation to make
available to him or it any specified official information.

 

From the limited information you have provided in your request we are
unable to determine if you are eligible to make a request under the OIA.
Therefore, before we can proceed with your request you will need to
provide evidence that you are eligible to make a request.  Proof of
eligibility can be provided confidentially to me via email which is shown
in the attached file.

 

Please provide a response with evidence by 30 March 2021. If no response
is received by this date, your request will be closed and considered
withdrawn on the basis that you are not eligible to make a request under
section 12 of the OIA.
