Progress towards the "leveraging the public" recommendation in the Arotake Review

Scott made this Official Information request to New Zealand Security Intelligence Service

This request has been withdrawn by the person who made it. There may be an explanation in the correspondence below.

From: Scott

Dear New Zealand Security Intelligence Service,

The proactively-released executive summary of the Arotake Review commissioned by Director General Kitteridge in the wake of the March 15 terror attack lists enhancing public engagement among its primary recommendations for improving Service counter-terrorism capabilities going forward (AROTAKE Executive Summary p.6).

This is a request for information regarding this recommendation. Firstly, whether the Service intends to pursue this recommendation; and if so, what steps the Service has made toward realising this recommendation (examples would be appreciated), and/or what steps the Service plans to take in future.

Yours faithfully,

Scott

Kia ora Scott,

We refer to your official information request dated 5 March, for progress towards the "leveraging the public" recommendation in the Arotake Review. The Official Information Act 1982 requires that we advise you of our decision on your request no later than 20 working days after the day that we received your request. Unfortunately, it will not be possible to meet that time limit and we are, therefore, writing to notify you of an extension of the time to make our decision, to 20 May 2021.

This extension is necessary because the consultations necessary to make a decision on your request are such that a proper response cannot reasonably be made within the original time limit.

If you wish to discuss any aspect of your request with us, including this decision, please feel free to contact [NZSIS request email].

You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman of this decision. Information about how to make a complaint is available at www.ombudsman.parliament.nz or freephone 0800 802 602.

Kind regards
NZSIS
