Request for Correspondence and Complaints Regarding LAWS211 2020

Johnny Brebner made this Official Information request to Victoria University of Wellington

The request was successful.

From: Johnny Brebner

Dear Victoria University of Wellington,

I am emailing to request the contents of all complaints made by students regarding LAWS211 (The Law of Contract) since the beginning of trimester 1 (2nd March 2020) up to the date this OIA request is received.

Additionally, I request the contents of correspondence which indicates a complaint or concern about the teaching and administration of the same course regarding the online period of teaching (trimester 1, weeks 4 through 12). Note that this is correspondence regarding that period of teaching, not just correspondence had during that period. I seek the contents of the relevant correspondence from the beginning of trimester 1 up to the date that this OIA request is received.

I understand that some content will need to be redacted to protect information that may be sensitive or identify complainants. Dates and subject lines are requested unless they would reveal such sensitive or identifying information.

LAWS211 course coordinator and lecturer, Professor David McLaunchlan, has suggested he has identified and read complaints and relevant correspondence so collecting the requested information should not be unduly burdensome.

Yours faithfully,

J Brebner

Dear OIA Requests,

The response I received from VUW contains information that I did request, as well as additional information which was extremely helpful.

However, there appears to be correspondence omitted.

For example, complaints and emails I and others sent to Professor McLauchlan and VUW faculty.

I would like clarification as to how this information was compiled, and if it was possible that information requested was accidentally or intentionally omitted. If it appears information may have been omitted, I request that it be located and released.

I understand if another OIA request is required to respond to these latter requests.

Additionally noting, with respect, that there are still some identifying details in the initial request that has not been redacted.

Yours sincerely,

Johnny Brebner
