Ministry of Business, Innovation & Employment
Dear John
Thank you for your responding to my email.
Please see some additional information around standards development committees' membership and the Standards NZ work programme that may assist in refining you request, if you wish to do so.
In particular it is worth noting that the standards development committee members are not appointed for a specific term. The development committees need their members for as long as they are active. This depends on the amount of time it takes for a standard to be revised or developed. The amount of time cannot be predetermined (for example in the case of significant number of comments received during the public consultation phase the draft standards document may be rewritten and then taken out for a second public consultation round) and could span from a few months to a few years for more complicated projects.
As of today there are 801 committee members volunteering their time in Standards NZ and joint Standards Australia/ Standards NZ development committees. The list of committee members changes monthly in numbers and names as new committees are formed, others are disbanded or members choose to leave, retire and so on. To get a better understanding of the breadth and number of committees currently developing standards please see the Standards New Zealand work programme (the list of New Zealand and joint standards that are in development as of 8 July 2020) https://www.standards.govt.nz/developing... .
Please note that our work programme is updated regularly, with the next update scheduled for August 2020. The contents of the website pages you refer to in your OIA request are up to date and reflect Standards NZ current practice, as well as the requirements of the Standards and Accreditation Act 2015 around committee membership.
Furthermore as we would need to contact all committee members prior to releasing their names, which would be a significant undertaking given their number, we would like to clarify with you whether there are any specific sectors of the economy with standards under development or particular standards development committees that you are interested in so that we could potentially narrow the scope of your request.
I am always happy to discuss further.
Best regards,
Silvie Zantza
