Dear Ms Te Whenua

 

I refer to your request received on 21 April 2020, which has been
considered under the Official Information Act 1982.

 

You have asked, over the past three years:

a) How many Mâori women (and what percentage of the total number of
applicants) applied for Tier 2 roles or above?

b) How many Mâori women (and what percentage of the total number of
successful applicants) were successfully appointed to the jobs which they
applied for at Tier 2 or above?

 

Manatû Taonga has four positions in Tier 2.  An appointment was made to
each of these roles in the past three years.  One is Mâori and three are
women, but none are Mâori women.  However, two of these roles were
previously held by Mâori women who left Manatû Taonga within the last
three years.

 

To attract a diverse field of applicants vacancies are advertised widely,
including on specialist recruitment sites such as Mâhi.com that are
targeted at Mâori. When we use a recruitment agency to assist us to fill a
vacancy, we provide the agency with diversity criteria and we ask the
agency to ensure a diverse range of candidates.  However, we do not
collect data on applicants’ ethnicity or gender as our current applicant
tracking system is not set up to do so.  Consequently, information on the
number and percentage of Mâori women applicants for Tier 2 roles does not
exist.

 

Your request includes roles above Tier 2, i.e. our Chief Executive.  The
State Services Commissioner is responsible for the appointments of Public
Service Chief Executive roles.  I understand you have also written to the
Commissioner, and he will respond to you in relation to Tier 1 roles.
