Prioritize SMC application data for year 2019
Satish made this Official Information request to Ministry of Business, Innovation & Employment
The request was partially successful.
From: Satish
Dear Ministry of Business, Innovation & Employment,
I would like to understand how many SMC Applications got assigned to a case officer who fulfilled the INZ internal Criteria in the year 2019 and when did this practice became effective, and how many application from the normal (not prioritized ones) SMC queues have got case officer assigned from Dec 2018 to Oct 2019 (Month wise).
I am also interested to understand how long (in the number of months/days) is INZ taking to get a case officer assigned to an application once the application is lodged in year 2019.
Yours faithfully,
Satish

I have been allocated your OIA to respond to but just need to clarify what
you are wanting.
It appears that your request has three questions:
1. how many SMC Applications got assigned to a case officer who
fulfilled the INZ internal Criteria in the year 2019; and
2. when did this practice became effective; and
3. how many application from the normal (not prioritized ones) SMC
queues have got case officer assigned from Dec 2018 to Oct 2019 (Month
wise).
Question 1 – ‘How many SMC applications were assigned to immigration
officers who began working for INZ in 2019’
· I take this to mean that you are wanting to know how many SMC
applications were allocated to new immigration officers who were
trained/began working for INZ in 2019
Can you please confirm that this is correct?
Question 2 – this one is not clear.
In you first question you are referencing case officers fulfilling the
‘INZ internal criteria’ which I take to mean new staff being trained
I do not understand what ‘practice’ you are referring to in regards to
training. All staff are trained and this has been in place for years and
years, and a date could not be provided for this.
Can you please explain what you mean by this?
Question 3 – I take your question to mean:
· For the period 1 December 2018 to October 2019 (date data is
extracted) broken down by month
· SMC applications that INZ have received or been tendered
· Non priority
· How many have case officer assigned
Can you please confirm that the above points under question 3 are correct.
It would be appreciated if you could respond as soon as possible, or by
12pm Monday 21 October 2019. If I do not hear from you within this
timeframe I will process your request in line with what I have stated
above.

Dear Penny Hazlett,
Kindly find the comments against your clarifications/questions.
Please be advised, I am looking to understand how many Case Officers (irrespective of new or existing CO) are assigned in each month of 2019 on the Application that has met INZ internal criteria of prioritizing Application (1. criteria of being working for a govt organization, 2. work requiring occupational registration like doctor and nurses 3. People earning a salary above high remuneration which is more than 106K/year).
I am wanting to understand when did INZ put this practice of cheery picking Applications based on the Internal criteria in place to process SMC application out of Normal Managed/First In First Out Queue (irrespective of new staff being trained/hired). For clarity please refer to the point I have mentioned about prioritizing application based on the three conditions in question 1, and is INZ still following this practice?.
Please be advised for this question 3, I am wanting to understand how many SMC Applications were assigned to Case Officers (not wanting to know how many were received or tendered) from the Managed queue in each month from 1 Dec 2018 up to Oct 2019 (each month's detailed break up).
Summarizing all the questions again, and please let me know if you still need more clarification.
1. The number of Case Officers assigned to the Application which meets the internal Criteria of INZ in the year 2019 (each month's detailed break up).
2. When (which Month to specific) did the INZ put this practice of prioritizing SMC Application (based on three points I have mentioned in question 1) and is INZ still following this process?.
3. The number of Case Officers assigned to the SMC Application which doesn't NOT meet the internal Criteria of INZ from 1 Dec 2018 to Oct 2019 (each month's detailed break up).
4. How long (in the number of days) is INZ taking to assign Case Officers to the SMC Applications that are in Normal (not meeting the internal criteria of INZ) queue?.
Yours sincerely,
Satish

Thank you for your response. Thank you for the clarification as I did not
know what you meant about INZ internal criteria.
I note the definition that you have provided for INZ internal criteria but
just wondering where you obtained this information from. This will allow
me to determine who I need to contact in regards to this issue.
Currently I have your question as:
Qn1
how many Case Officers (irrespective of new or existing CO) are assigned
in each month of 2019 on the Application that has met INZ internal
criteria of prioritizing Application (1. criteria of being working for a
govt organization, 2. work requiring occupational registration like doctor
and nurses 3. People earning a salary above high remuneration which is
more than 106K/year).
Qn2
When (which Month to specific) did the INZ put this practice of
prioritizing SMC Application (based on three points I have mentioned in
question 1) and is INZ still following this process?.
Qn3
how many SMC Applications (non-prioritised) were assigned to Case Officers
from the Managed queue in each month from 1 Dec 2018 up to Oct 2019 (each
month's detailed break up).
Qn4
How long (in the number of days) is INZ taking to assign Case Officers to
the SMC Applications that are in Normal (not meeting the internal criteria
of INZ) queue?.
· Please advise where you obtained the INZ internal criteria
information including the three points
· Please confirm that the questions above are correct

Dear Penny Hazlett,
You should be able to get the INZ internal criteria information from
Immigration Manager
Employment Visa Escalation ([email address])
Once you have made contact with the concerned team/manager they should be able to provide more information on the INZ internal criteria and the three points.
And I confirm you have complied the questions correctly. Kindly let me know if you need more clarification.
Yours sincerely,
Satish
