Complaint Against Minister

S. Paurini made this Official Information request to Jacinda Ardern

Response to this request is long overdue. By law Jacinda Ardern should have responded by now (details and exceptions). The requester can complain to the Ombudsman.

From: S. Paurini

Dear Prime Minister

I have been advised by Speaker Trevor Mallard and the Ombudsman's office that you are the person I write to to raise a complaint against Carmel Sepuloni.

Carmel Sepuloni is responsible for appointing the Social Security Appeal Authority members. If a complaint is raised against the Authority Chief the Minister of Social Development is meant to investigate it. So far Sepuloni and her office have failed to address my complaint against the Authority Chief. I first raised the complaint in March this year. The Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Social Development, William Sio's office and Carmel Sepuloni's office have been "passing the buck" between their respective offices which has achieved nothing but confusion.

Initially the Ombudsman's office told me that they have no jurisdiction over Miss Sepuloni and advised me to write to the Labour Party.

I wrote to the President and Dianna Lacy a number of times. I received no response from the President. Dianna Lacy acknowledged my emails but forwarded them on to Carmel Sepuloni's office, which was pointless she has never acknowledged my letters, let alone responded.

I wrote to the Human Rights Commission and they advised me to write to the Speaker, Mr Mallard.

I wrote to Mr Mallard and he advised me to write to you or Miss Sepuloni's office. I've written to you several times and I've received no response. I contacted the General Secretary of the Labour Party and I met with him. His advice was to ask the Ombudsman to write a reminder letter to Miss Sepuloni. I've done that myself about 30 times and I now can no longer write to Miss Sepuloni's office because my complaint is now about her. I doubt she has the ability, competence or seriousness to carry out her responsibilities.

I spoke again with the Ombudsman's office last Friday. They reiterated that you are responsible for addressing my complaint against Carmel Sepuloni.

I'm concerned because the complaint is a serious matter, although easily addressed, but no one is willing to address it.

I would appreciate it if your office could look at my situation.

Please contact me to arrange a meeting with your office so that the matter can be dealt with.

Yours faithfully,

S. Paurini

Note: This is not a vexatious letter and it's not asking for personal information it is asking for the PM to intervene and take action because her Minister will not. The PM is the only person who can address this issue. It is not operational so government agencies can't deal with it (so they tell me). While the Ombudsman is meant to be the official we turn to after exhausting our options. They are unable to instruct a minister, neither is the Speaker, only the PM. Going through FYI is my only option.

I have written again to Jacinda Ardern asking for a response. Unfortunately I have never received a response to any of my previous correspondence over the last two years or so. I continue to write in the hope the PM's office will write back. The reason I'm writing to her is because she is the only government official who can respond. I received that advice from the Speaker and the Ombudsman.

Dear Jacinda Ardern,

I have written five times to your office on this matter.

I have not received a response.

Please follow this issue up.

I have been to the following agents of the current government, and those who have responded, except for two, have given me wrong information.

Ministry of Justice
Minister of Justice
Minister of Social Development
Ministry of Social Development
Ombudsman (true advice)
Speaker Mallard (true advice)
President of Labour Party
General Secretary of the LP
Vice-president of the LP

If you won't address this issue I can't see how I (or any citizen) can take the current government seriously. Your one of a number of govt ministers and officials that seem unwilling or unable to serve/act on behalf of the constituency at large. It's your job. Please help me sort this matter out. I've been trying to get this done in a civil way but your officials and Minister's are unwilling address the matter with me.

Yours faithfully,

S. Paurini

Dear Jacinda Ardern,

You still haven't responded to my letter. Why? This a complaint against your Minister as advised by the Seaker, Mallard. This week and last week I continued to contact her office and there has been no response.

You are responsible for correcting her on this issue. That comes from the Speaker and the Ombudsman.

Yours faithfully,

S. Paurini
