In regards to "Children" within the household, this survey aims at those that age between infancy to adolescences/being of adulthood. To clarify, between the ages 0-18 years olds.

Ministry of Social Development
Dear Mr William Martin
On 10 September 2019 you emailed the Ministry requesting, under the
Official Information Act 1982, the following information:
o The number of families requesting food grants from Work and Income in
the Auckland Region since 26th of October 2017
o The number of families receiving food grants based upon the Otago
Survey in the Auckland region since 26th of October 2017
o The average food grant amount broken down by the number of dependents
since 26th October 2017 in the Auckland regions
o The number of times a beneficiary was only permitted to buy food from
the a single location using their payment card in the Auckland region
since the 26th of October 2017
Please provide this data by quarters. Please provide a breakdown by
ethnicity, age and sex.
The Ministry has decided to grant your request in part, namely information
which relates to the number of families requesting food grants from Work
and Income in the Auckland region since 26 October 2017. However, it will
take some time to prepare this information for release. The information
will be sent to you by 16 December 2019.
The Ministry has also decided to refuse your request for information which
relates to the number of families receiving food grants based upon the
Otago Survey in the Auckland region since 26 ^ October 2017; the average
food grant amount broken down by the number of dependents since 26 October
2017 in the Auckland region; the number of times a beneficiary was only
permitted to buy food from a single location using their payment card in
the Auckland region since 26 October 2017, under section 18(f) of the
Official Information Act.
I am unable to provide you with this information as it is held in notes on
individual case files. In order to provide you with this information
Ministry staff would have to manually review thousands of files. As such I
refuse your request under section 18(f) of the Official Information Act.
The greater public interest is in the effective and efficient
administration of the public service.
I have considered whether the Ministry would be able to respond to your
request given extra time, or the ability to charge for the information
requested. I have concluded that, in either case, the Ministry’s ability
to undertake its work would still be prejudiced.
Despite these refusals, we will provide information on quarterly food
grant figures broken down by age, ethnicity, gender, relationship status,
and whether or not the client has dependants.
If you wish to discuss this decision with us, please feel free to contact
[1][MSD request email]
If you are not satisfied with this decision, you have the right to seek an
investigation and review by the Ombudsman. Information about how to make a
complaint is available at [2]www.ombudsman.parliament.nz or 0800 802 602.
Yours sincerely
