Note that students and staff may select more than one ethnic affiliation,
but only one is recorded in the data in the tables below, according to the
following methodology:
 

 1. Where one of a student/staff member’s ethnic affiliations is Mâori,
they are recorded below as Mâori.
 2. Where one of a student/staff member’s ethnic affiliations is Pacific,
they are recorded below as Pacific unless they also selected Mâori as
an ethnic affiliation.

 
For example, a student who selects both Mâori and Pacific will be recorded
below as Mâori, whereas a student who selects both Pacific and Asian will
be recorded below as Pacific.

Mâori and Pacific staff employee numbers have been provided below from
2015-2019 to date, and broken down into Academic Staff positions and
Professional Staff positions. The source for this data is only maintained
for the past five calendar years, including the current year. Accordingly
data is not available for the period 2012-2014. This constitutes a partial
refusal of your request under section 18(f) of the Official Information
Act. You have the right to make a complaint to an Ombudsman about this
refusal.

Note that the totals of Mâori staff and Pacific staff in Table 2 do not
match the totals of Mâori and Pacific academic and professional staff in
Table 3. This is because some staff members may have more than one active
employment contract (i.e. they are employed as both an academic staff
member and a professional staff member).
