Good morning Ms McIntyre,

 

I refer to your official information request dated 07 April 2019, as
below, relating to Life Sentences in New Zealand.

 

We have transferred part of your request to the Department of Corrections.
The first two questions of your request -

 

-The total number of people who are currently serving life sentences in
New Zealand prisons.

 

-The total number of people who have been sentenced to a life sentence but
have been released from prison.

 

—are not held by us but are believed to be held by the Department of
Corrections. In these circumstances, we are required by section 14 of the
OIA to transfer your request.

 

You will hear further from the Department of Corrections concerning those
parts of your request.
