Dear Mr Davenport
Request for information 2019-003
I refer to your request for information dated 9 January 2019, which was received by Greater
Wellington Regional Council on 9 January 2019. You have requested the following information:
“
I would like to request any policies regarding any driver training provided to bus drivers under the
Metlink public transport system. Ideally this should include mandatory vs voluntary training. For
mandatory training, this should hopefully include how frequently the training must be re-assessed”
Greater Wellington Regional Council’s decision follows.
While Greater Wellington Regional Council (GWRC) does not have any specific policies regarding
driver training, the partnering contract with operators includes obligations for driver training:
Section 14.1 of Part Two of the Partnering Contract includes a requirement that drivers are
properly trained and experienced to the expected level.
Clause 1.4.5 of Schedule 5 of the Partnering Contact requires operators to prepare a Staff
Training Plan outlining the systems and processes to ensure all staff are appropriately
trained and qualified.
Further information on the contractual obligations can be found at the following link
http://www.gw.govt.nz/bus-contracts/.
