Thank you for your query concerning the Regional Land Transport Plan (RL TP) and how any
given project fits with the Government Policy Statement on Land Transport (GPS).
Projects were considered for inclusion in the RL TP following a process of assessment based
on the outcomes sought by the Auckland Plan, the draft GPS, the Auckland Transport
Alignment Project (ATAP), and feedback from consultation. Rather than each project being
given an individual priority ranking, the best performing projects in each priority area, such as
safety, public transport, walking and cycling, were grouped for inclusion in the proposed
funded programme. The allocation of funding between priority areas was determined in the
light of the draft GPS and the recommendations of ATAP.
There are three categories of priority. Priority 1 denotes a project which is already committed,
and priority 2 denotes a project which is proposed to be funded during the 10 years of the
RL TP. Priority 3 denotes a project which is not currently proposed to be funded as part of the
RLTP, but which may be so if additional funding becomes available.
We trust the above information has addressed the matters raised however, should you believe
that we have not responded appropriately to your request, you have the right in accordance
with section 27(3) of the LGOIMA to make a complaint to the Office of the Ombudsman to
seek an investigation and review in regard to this matter.
