Tetra Trap Maintenance 
 
I refer to your request for information which we received on 1 November 2017, concerning 
Tetra Trap Maintenance. Your request and our response are provided below. 
 
All costs involved in the development and design of the Tetra Trap catchpit screen 
 
Tetra Traps were developed and designed by Auckland Transport. Accordingly, Auckland 
Council’s Healthy Waters department did not contribute to this cost.  
 
Auckland Transport will be providing a response separately which will include this 
information if they hold it.  
 
Yearly construction and installation costs for the last 10 years and the number of Tetra traps 
this relates to. 
 
Auckland Council was amalgamated on 1 November 2010. While we cannot, therefore, 
provide costs relating to the last 10 years, we can advise since this date 644 Tetra Traps 
have been installed across Auckland by Healthy Waters. The average cost of a Tetra Trap is 
$760. This includes the manufacturing (the main cost), installation costs and traffic control.   
 
Yearly maintenance costs for the last 10 years and the number of Tetra traps this relates to 
 
Council’s Healthy Waters department installed Tetra Traps on a trial basis. As such, 
maintenance contracts were already in place and any extra costs are being absorbed by the 
maintenance contractors.

On renewal of these contracts rates for the yearly maintenance will be negotiated. These 
rates have yet to be negotiated and this part of your request is therefore refused under 
s17(g) of the Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act 1987.
