Thank you for your email received by Capital and Coast District Health Board (CCDHB) on 6 September
2016, in which under the Official Information Act 1982 you requested information relating to
Kenepuru Accident and Medical Centre.
The request asks for the following information. Please find the data and our response below the
questions.
Part 1
Please provide the fol owing usage information for Kenepuru 24-hours Accident and Medical Clinic,
which is currently being investigated for closure between the hours of 11pm and 7am.
•
Average hourly user volumes overall (24 hours) - if the data is not captured in hourly blocks,
then whatever time blocks is captured (please ensure that users during the 11pm to 7am
period are clearly identified).

The breakdown of users by age group in each time block
•
The breakdown of users by home location in each time block (suburb/town)
•
The breakdown of users by community service card holders / not community service card
holders in each time block
•
Any data available on number of users who are admitted or transferred to Wel ington Hospital
during their visit to the after hours clinic.
Al the data you have requested is attached and is broken down in time frames as requested. The time
period for the data capture is September 2015 to September 2016.
We do not col ect data of users by community service card holders for this service.

Part 2
Please provide documents showing the analysis that has been carried out on expected increased
workload at Wel ington Hospital accident and emergency in the event of Kenepuru closure.
This includes the data itself (any model ing of the number of people expected) and documented
expected impacts on
- Staffing
- Patient parking
- Bed usage
- Other key impacts that have been identified.
Where impacts have been identified, please include the documented proposed impact mitigations.
The data provided in this response includes the numbers currently referred to Wellington Hospital
Emergency Department between 11pm and 8 am.
An analysis of data in the first 6 months of 2016 confirmed that for overnight presentations:
• There was an average 12 people presenting per night.
• 5% were transported to Wellington ED and only 2% required admission to inpatient services.
For those transferred to ED only a small percentage of patients were a Triage 2 at 12% with the
majority of patients, 61% being triage 3.

There has been no further impact analysis on the impact on the Emergency Department .
