[FYI request #4192 email]
Dear IP Expert NZ,
Official Information Act request transfer
This letter refers to your official information request dated 29 June 2016, requesting information
regarding Vodafone Xone.
The Ministry is transferring your request to Callaghan Innovation in accordance with Section 14 of
the Official Information Act 1982. The request being transferred is as below:
1)
Why was Vodafone Xone awarded a government supported accelerator contract,
along side the Lightning Lab program? They seem identical: targeted at digital start-
ups.
2)
How much money was awarded exactly ? Press releases seem to suggest $900,000
over three years. Can you please confirm?
3)
How much money does Vodafone have to invest in the start-ups, alongside
the government funding?
4)
How is this the government funding allocated and how is this monitored? Vodafone
Xone's website list that every start-up (10 in total) get $25,000 in seed funding. This equals
$250,000 a year, so where is the other $5,000 of government money going? Is this going to
Vodafone to cover their costs?
5)
What were the selection criteria for the start-ups receiving the money, who are they
and what progress has been made?
I cannot find any information in the public domain.
This transfer is occurring because the information you requested is believed by the Ministry to be
more closely aligned with the functions of Callaghan Innovation.

They have 20 working days from receipt of this transfer to make a decision on this request, and you
should expect to hear from them in due course.
Yours sincerely
