Thank you for your request to the Department of Conservation, received on 04 June 2026, in
which you asked:
“I request the following information relating to Pure Turoa (Turoa Ski Area) for the period 13
March 2026 to 4 June 2026 inclusive:
•
Copies of all correspondence (including emails, letters, attachments, and meeting
invitations) sent or received by the Department of Conservation to or from Pure Turoa
(Turoa Ski Area), or its representatives
•
Copies of any meeting minutes, notes, agendas, records, summaries, or other
documents recording meetings or discussions between the Department of
Conservation and Pure Turoa (Turoa Ski Area) or its representatives
•
Copies of any internal emails, briefings, reports, aide-mémoires, memos, file notes, or
other internal documents created, received, or held by the Department of
Conservation relating to Pure Turoa (Turoa Ski Area)”.
We have considered your request under the Official Information Act 1982.
The information you have requested has been provided and accompanies our response as an
attachment (items 1 – 41).
I have decided to release the relevant parts of the documents listed in the attached Schedule of
Document, subject to information being withheld under one or more of the following sections of
the Official Information Act, as applicable:
• Sensitive information under section 6(c) – to prevent prejudice to the maintenance of law
including the prevention, investigation, and detection of offences
• personal contact details of officials, under section 9(2)(a) – to protect the privacy of
natural persons, including deceased people,
• commercially sensitive information, under section 9(2)(b)(i ) – to protect the commercial
position of the person who supplied the information, or who is the subject of the
information,
• free and frank expression under section 9(2)(g)(i) – to maintain the effective conduct of
public affairs,
• advice subject to legal privilege, under section 9(2)(h) - to maintain legal professional
privilege,
• information, under section 9(2)(k) – to prevent the disclosure or use of official information
for improper gain or improper advantage.
In making my decision, I have considered the public interest considerations in section 9(1) of the
Official Information Act and determined there are no public interests that outweigh the grounds
for withholding.
You are entitled to seek an investigation and review of my decision by writing to an Ombudsman
as provided by section 28(3) of the Official Information Act.
