Event 1: Katch-a-Māori

What is the event for?
Katch-A-Māori is an event to welcome and connect first-year Māori students and new
students with Ngā Tauira Māori. The event provides an opportunity to introduce students to
the cultural and social support offered by NTM while fostering a sense of community and
belonging on campus. We aim to bridge the gap between new tauira and their university
experience, ensuring they have the support and guidance to thrive socially and culturally.
What will be happening at the event?
Katch-A-Māori will feature various activities to engage students and introduce them to Ngā
Tauira Māori. The event will include:

Interactive workshops focused on whakawhanaungatanga and understanding the
role of Ngā Tauira Māori in supporting students.

Social networking activities, such as icebreakers and team-building games, foster
connections and help students feel at ease in a new environment.

Kai, creating a welcoming and authentic atmosphere.
Expected Attendees
Due to our sudden surge of registrations at our club's expo, Katch-A-Māori is expected to
have up to 80 attendees, made up of 75 Ngā Tauira Māori members and 5 Ngā Tauira Māori
executive members. The attendees will be primarily Māori students.

We are seeking a total of $1920 in funding for the hiring of two 12-seater vans so that we can
pick up our first years that live in Halls (Grafton Hall and Flats, Waipārūrū Hall, O’Rorke, and
University Hall – Towers)
We plan to hire the vans from the 4th of April to the 6th of April, which is 3 days.s

Purpose:
What is the event for?
The event is organised for all tauira at Waipapa Taumata Rau to unite, share kai, and connect.
The purpose is to foster a sense of community and unity among tauira, al owing us to break
bread together and strengthen the cultural bonds that tie us as a whānau.
What will be happening at the event?
At the event, tauira wil gather to enjoy a shared meal, celebrate our cultural heritage, and
engage with one another in a relaxed and welcoming environment. It will be an opportunity
for first-year students to get to know their tuākana and the executives of Ngā Tauira Māori.
There will be opportunities to connect, share stories, and build relationships through
whakawhanaungatanga and moments of cultural exchange and support among peers.
How many attendees?
Based on the registrations from the Club's Expo (around 160), we anticipate approximately 60
to 80 tauira will attend the event. This will include first-year students, tuākana, and Ngā
Tauira Māori executives.
What is the goal? Celebrations, educational, social, wellbeing, networking, etc.?
The event aims to celebrate our Māori culture, promote social connection, and enhance
wellbeing within the Māori student community. It is an opportunity to build stronger
networks, offer mutual support, and create a space where tauira can share experiences and

Ngā Tauira Māori
(Māori Student Association). It will allow students to network, ask questions, and connect in
a relaxed, welcoming environment.

The event will provide an informal yet informative space for students to meet representatives
from each Māori student association. There wil be:

Introductions and presentations from each Māori student association, outlining
their purpose, upcoming events, and how students can get involved.

Event 4: Study Wā
Purpose:
What is the event for?
Study Wā is a weekly event held throughout the semester, dedicated to providing tauira with
a supportive and inclusive space to study together. Our goal is to create a study environment
where tauira can collaborate, focus on their academic goals, and engage with one another in
a culturally affirming space.
What will be happening at the event?
Each week, tauira will gather in a designated space to study. During this time, we wil provide
a shared meal for all students to ensure they are nourished while they work. Study Wā
encourages social interaction, collaborative study, and mutual support, fostering a sense of
community among the tauira. Combining academic and cultural support creates an
environment where tauira feel safe, respected, and valued.
How many attendees?
We anticipate approximately 20–30 tauira will attend each Study Wā session every week. This
number may vary depending on individual schedules and academic workloads, but we
expect a consistent group to engage with the initiative over the semester.

engages with Tauira in different regions. This year, Ngā Tauira Māori will travel to Taranaki to
visit local schools, meet with tauira, and share information about academic opportunities at
Waipapa Taumata Rau. The event aims to strengthen relationships with schools, encourage
tauira to pursue higher education and highlight the support and resources available at the
university.
What will be happening at the event?
During our trip to Taranaki, Ngā Tauira Māori wil visit multiple schools, engage with students
and staff, present information about Waipapa Taumata Rau, and answer questions about
university life.
How many attendees?
The group will consist of approximately
50 students travelling to Taranaki as part of the
outreach initiative. These students will actively engage with the local schools and promote
the university to prospective tauira. The number of students involved in the event reflects the
large-scale nature of this outreach program, where the team will visit multiple schools and
provide a comprehensive representation of Waipapa Taumata Rau.

wider community. The event will include a formal ceremony, speeches, and refreshments,
making it a significant moment for students and their families.
What will be happening at the event?
The Māori Graduation event wil feature the following:

Formal ceremony: Graduating students will be called to receive their certificates,
and each student’s academic journey and achievements will be recognised.

Speeches and acknowledgments: The event will include speeches from key

days during the exam period, we wil provide a safe, supportive, and culturally affirming
space where students can stay on-site to study, rest, and recharge between their exams. In
addition to offering a quiet and collaborative study environment, we will provide nutritious
meals to help sustain students throughout this challenging period.
What will be happening at the event?
During Exam Wā, students can access study rooms, quiet areas, and group study spaces to
prepare for their exams. We wil also offer breakfast, lunch, and dinner daily so students are
well-nourished throughout the day. This event balances academic focus, relaxation, and
cultural support, ensuring students remain physical y and mentally prepared for their exams.
Additionally, students will have the opportunity to connect with their peers and access
wellbeing support as needed.
How many attendees?
We anticipate around 20–30 tauira will attend Exam Wā, depending on the number of
students with exams. This number may fluctuate, but we expect a steady group of students
to benefit from the initiative during the exam period.
