Tēnā koe Stephanie,

Official Information Act request relating to Communications with the Minister of
Foreign Affairs relating to the conflict in Iran

Thank you for your request made under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act), which
was received by the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (DPMC) on 1 May 2026.
You requested:

“[…] Copies of all communications, including emails, text messages, and written
memoranda, between the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (including
staff in the Prime Minister's office) and the office of the Minister of Foreign Affairs
between 28 February 2026 and the date of this request, regarding New Zealand's
public position on the US-led military action against Iran.

This includes any communications in which a preferred position on the airstrikes was
conveyed or discussed on behalf of the Prime Minister.”

I  believe  the  information  you  have requested  is  more  closely  connected  to  the  functions  of
the  Minister  of  Foreign  Affairs,  Rt  Hon  Winston  Peters.  Accordingly,  I  have  decided  to
transfer your request to him under section 14(b)(ii) of the Act.

As  it  is  already  outside  of  the  ten  working-day  timeframe  for  transferring  a  request,  I  have
extended the time available under section 15A of the Act. This extension is required because
of the consultation needed to make a decision on your request.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs has the usual timeframes under the Act from receipt of this
transfer to make a decision on your request.

Nākū noa, nā,
