requested the following:
For Budgets 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025,
please provide the following:
- The amount of debt New Zealand had at the time.
- The amount of debt New Zealand had acquired by interest over the previous
financial year.
- The amount of money being borrowed for that Budget.
If and where relevant, please also provide the amount of money borrowed between
Budgets that were not included in the Budgets on either side (for example, if money
was borrowed in December 2022, but was not reflected in money borrowed for
Budgets 2022 or 2023.)
Information publicly available
Information on the level of debt held by New Zealand is publicly available in the

end Financial Statements of the Government of New Zealand, which are published on
the Treasury website:
