Thank you for your email on 7 April 2026, asking Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora for the
following under the Official Information Act 1982 (the OIA):
I am enquiring regarding security breaches at Dunedin public hospital.

Health NZ takes the wel being and safety of its staff, patients, and visitors seriously and is
committed to providing a safe and secure environment for everyone in its care.
Hospital security staff are trained to protect hospital employees, patients and visitors from anti-
social behaviours at hospitals around New Zealand.
We have interpreted your request for the number of security breaches at Dunedin Hospital as,
physical security breaches / unauthorised access at Dunedin Hospital. This comprises number of
security incidents that the Dunedin Hospital Security Team dealt with and which are recorded in
their Safety1st system.
Please refer to
Table One below for five ‘unauthorised access’ events / incidents that were
recorded from 1 July 2022 – 15 April 2026, including what occurred and what followed to rectify the
incident.
