Dear Aaron,
Official Information Act request: Evidence for Prime Minister's statement about work
Thank you for your Official Information Act 1982 (the Act) request, received on 30 March
2026. You requested:
“You [the Prime Minister]
noted during an interview that in response to the Iran
crisis that “we” are working “20 hours a day, 7 days a week”.
Please provide evidence to support this statement.”
We would note that this is an expression, used to convey that the government is working
hard on this issue. In response to the crisis in the Middle East, Ministers and relevant New
Zealand Government officials have been working long hours to ensure New Zealand is as
best prepared as it can be. Many agencies have staff working across a seven-day period to
ensure relevant information and necessary policy work is continually being undertaken.
You have the right to ask the Ombudsman to investigate and review my decision under
section 28(3) of the Act.
Yours sincerely,
Cameron Burrows
Chief of Staff
