Thank you for your email of 19/03/2026 to the Ministry of Business, Innova on and Employment (MBIE)
reques ng, under the Official Informa on Act 1982 (the Act), the following informa on:
I am wri ng to request informa on under the OIA regarding the Government’s Events A rac on
Package.
Specifically, I would like to request the following informa on:
1. Funding Alloca on
The total funding allocated to the Events A rac on Package.
The amount of funding commi ed or assigned to each event announced to date (including but not limited
to events such as Linkin Park – Auckland, Ultra Music Fes val – Wellington, FIFA World Series – Auckland,
WSL Championship Tour – Raglan, and Robbie Williams – Christchurch and Auckland).
2. Invited Events
The list of events that have been invited to submit business cases under the Events A rac on Package
(including those not ul mately selected, if available).
3. Shortlis ng Process
Informa on on how the independent advisory panel developed the shortlist of events, including:
4. Criteria used for shortlis ng
Any weigh ng or scoring methodology applied
Any guidance or direc on provided to the panel by MBIE or Ministers
5. Decision-Making Criteria
Details of the criteria used to assess and select events, including how factors such as: Economic impact
Interna onal visitor a rac on
Regional and seasonal distribu on
Alignment with Government priori es
were considered.
6. Ticket Pricing and Public Accessibility
Whether cket pricing and affordability for New Zealand residents were considered in the event selec on
process.
Any analysis undertaken on whether public funding contributes to lower cket prices or increased
accessibility for local audiences.
If no such analysis was undertaken, the reasons why.
7. Counterfactual Analysis (super powerful)
Whether any assessment was made of whether these events would have occurred in New Zealand without
government funding.
If so, please provide details of that assessment
I am wri ng to advise you that MBIE will provide a response but needs to extend the me available to
answer your request. MBIE’s response will be sent to you no later than 19 May 2026.
The reason for the extension is that your request necessitates a search through a large quan ty of
informa on and mee ng the original me limit would unreasonably interfere with our opera ons.
