Thank you for your request of 10 March 2026 to Fire and Emergency New Zealand requesting the
following information under the Official Information Act 1982 (OIA):
1. When did FENZ last conduct a staff morale survey (or similar) and by what departments?
are there plans to do this in the near future?
2. Are there any documented organisational staff morale issues that have been reported any
other way within the past 1 year? if so please provide tabled or basic information on the
issues.
3. Have the National Executive or board discussed their role in staff morale or any initiatives
to alleviate any staff morale issues within the past 1 year? if so please provide information
on this.
4. Do FENZ use the services of a Public Relations person or company to assist with their public
reputation? if so how much has been spent on this in the past 1 year? and has this been
considered against their budget savings requirements?
This letter is to advise that Fire and Emergency needs to extend the timeframe of our response to
your request by 20 working days, under section 15A(1)(b) of the OIA, as consultations necessary to
make a decision on the request are such that a proper response to the request cannot reasonably
be made within the original time limit.
For this reason, you can expect to receive our response no later than 8 May 2026. We will
endeavour to respond sooner than this date if possible. If you no longer require this information,
please let us know.
You have the right to request an investigation and review of Fire and Emergency’s decision to
extend the timeframe by the Ombudsman. Information about how to make a complaint is
