We’re after new members for our District Licensing Commit ee.
You wil be responsible for deciding all alcohol licences and manager’s certificates in Palmerston North.
We are looking for people who:
• Have strong communication skil s
• Are comfortable reading detailed reports and applying case law
• Can make unbiased decisions
• Have relevant experience, eg. related industry experience; experience in legal processes;
familiarity with the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act
Ideally, you wil meet these criteria:
• Understand the alcohol industry but not have any current involvement or ties in the industry
• Be familiar with Te Tiriti o Waitangi and tikanga

• Understand the diversity of Palmy
• Have some knowledge of alcohol-related harm in Palmy and how it can be minimised
• Understand natural justice and the nature of evidence
• Not be a Police Of icer, a Medical Of icer of Health, an Alcohol Inspector, a Council employee
• Be well thought of in the community
The work wil be on an ‘as required’ basis. You can expect 1-2 hours per week. Meetings are usually held

Remuneration is set by the Council, currently $51/hr. Appointments can be made for up to 5 years.

The work is scheduled and allocated between all members on the list.
Mee ngs are online for approx. one hour every fortnight, with hearings (mee ngs in person) approx. one
day per month
Elected Members may claim for their me. The rates are $51/per hour for members and $78/hr for chairs,
claimed on the quarter hour.
Some training will be provided. Successful appointees will be asked to observe some mee ngs and
