subsequently offered to staff at Otago Polytechnic on individual employment agreements
I refer to your email of 22 December 2025 to New Zealand Institute of Skil s and Technology
(NZIST) in which you requested the following information:
1) For the period 1 January 2024 to 22 December 2025, the number of occas

were subsequently offered or applied to staff employed by Otago Polytechnic | Te
Pūkenga on Individual Employment Agreements (IEAs).
2) Where available, a breakdown of this information by calendar year.
3) Where available, a breakdown by staff category or employment group (for example,
academic, professional, leadership).
4) Where the information is held, confirmation of whether such increases and/or back pay
were applied automatically or on a discretionary basis to IEA staff.
On the 8 January, NZIST wrote to you advising that your request had been transferred to Otago
Polytechnic for a response.
Otago Polytechnic decision
The following provides a formal decision on your request.
RELEASED UNDER THE OFFICIAL
Otago Polytechnic did not pass on salary increases or any backpay arising from terms and
conditions negotiated in collective bargaining for either the TEU or TIASA Collective Employment
Agreements in the period 1 January 2024 to 22 December 2025. However, Otago Polytechnic did
review the remuneration of kaimahi employed on individual agreements in line with the terms and
conditions of their agreements.
