Taupō District Council is seeking an experienced and community-minded leader to serve as the Independent
External Chairperson for our Water Services Committee. This is a unique opportunity to provide strategic
governance and oversight of water services that are vital to the wellbeing and growth of our district.
ABOUT THE ROLE – NGĀ ĀHUATANGA O TE TŪRANGA
As Chair, you will:
• Lead the Water Services Committee, ensuring effective governance and oversight of Council’s water
services strategy and delivery.
• Chair monthly committee meetings and workshops, fostering constructive discussion and sound
decision-making.
• Provide strategic oversight of significant water infrastructure projects, including capital works and
resource consents.
• Act as spokesperson for the Committee (where delegated), representing the Council in media and
stakeholder engagements.
• Ensure meetings are run efficiently, inclusively, and in accordance with Council’s Standing Orders and
Code of Conduct.
• Build positive working relationships with elected members, Council staff, and the wider community.
• Maintain a clear understanding of the Committee’s terms of reference, delegated powers, and
statutory obligations.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR - KEI TE KIMI MĀTOU I TĒNEI MOMO TANGATA
You will bring:
• Proven governance and leadership experience, ideally in water services or other utilities (e.g.,
electricity, telecommunications, infrastructure).
• Demonstrated experience chairing and managing committees or boards.
• Strong commercial, strategic, and business acumen.
• A sound understanding of the Taupō District and the local government environment.
• Excellent communication, facilitation, and relationship-building skills.

• Integrity, impartiality, and a commitment to upholding Council’s Code of Conduct and statutory
requirements.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
• The Chair is an independent, external appointment with full voting rights.
• The role requires regular attendance at scheduled meetings and workshops, as well as preparation
time.

including the Local Government (Water Services) Acts and the Public Records Act.
