RE: Type 3 Fitout Development Mt Wellington
ACT
Hi all
Thanks everyone for your enthusiasm and work to make the rollout of the new Angloco MAN appliances a
success.
To ensure we are all aligned and have a clear scope and desired outcome for the planned fit out work at Mount
Wellington, I would like to clarify the scope of the project, and therefore what we are looking to achieve next week.
Everyone will be well aware that there is currently a considerable difference in the equipment carried by Type 3
appliances, and in the stowage arrangements.
INFORMATION
For those stations receiving the new appliances our aim is to accommodate all the equipment currently carried on
the appliance being replaced, and we intend to work with each station to achieve this. We are optimistic that all
current equipment will be able to be accommodated, but in the event that its not possible to do so, then the
District will decide what to leave off.
We are not seeking to standardise the equipment carried by Type 3 appliances as part of the introduction of the
new Angloco MAN appliances, nor are we seeking to standardise the equipment stowage across the country on
these appliances. We are also not seeking to introduce any new equipment beyond that already carried. There is
OFFICIAL
of course also commonalities in the equipment carried by Type 3s, and therefore lessons learnt from identifying
the optimal method of stowing any particular station’s equipment may well be applicable to other stations.
THE
With the amount of work and thought already put in to this subject by the Mount Wellington crew and Fleet and
E&L people, continuing to look at how the Mount Wellington equipment would best be stowed on the new Angloco
MAN will be very useful to provide relevant learnings to other stations and the Fleet and E&L teams and for the
eventual stowing of the new Mount Wellington Angloco appliance when that becomes available.
So the desired outcome is an understanding of how the current Mount Wellington 237 equipment would be best
UNDER
stowed including any recommended adjustments to shelves, brackets required etc.
Please note that the Angloco MAN appliance to be used has not yet been fully accepted by Fire and Emergency so
no modifications can be made to the appliance during this activity other than moving shelves.
Thanks for your involvement in this project and let me know if you have any questions.
Regards
Mike

Subject: Re: Type 3 Fitout Development Mt Wellington
Hi all,
OFFICIAL
Apologies for the bulk reply, but I wanted to share some thoughts on where we’re at and what we’re
aiming for. I've just replied to all, so am presuming this covers all bases for the information I feel we are
THE
missing.
After spending a day last week working through the layout of the new MAN appliance with my Blue watch
crew at Mt Wellington, it’s clear that fitting all the required PRT equipment will be a real challenge –
potentially even the pump inventory. This will require some fresh thinking, and possibly some difficult
decisions about what may not be carried if space simply doesn’t allow.
UNDER
It’s important to recognise that this is new ground – these lockers and the exact equipment requirements
have never been configured and fully fit out in this way before. I’m confident that with the operational
firefighters involved, and the right expertise available both on site and on call, we can develop the most
practical and effective solution. We could debate endlessly about whether everything will or won't fit,
but this project is about proving that these appliances can be set up efficiently, effectively, and rolled
out on schedule. In the current political climate, it’s in everyone’s interest that this workshop is a
success, and I believe it can be, given the right framework to achieve it. I am excited, and genuinely
RELEASED
believe we have the right team to achieve the best outcome, but to do so we need clear information,
flexibility, and direction on how to proceed if compromises on stowage become necessary.
To keep this process simple and effective, we need a 100% clear directive on:

What equipment must be carried on a pump, an urban PRT and an 'outer district' PRT (Portable
pumps etc).
These inventories are crucial for the project. I have seen several documents of differing
inventories - but nothing conclusive that we can work with next week. If space is going to be at a
premium we have to have direction on the absolute minimum stowage requirements for these 3
appliances - Pump/PRT/PRT with extras (portable pumps etc)
1982
At the moment, on Tuesday, I don't feel that we have a clear picture of what to fit. If we work off
unconfirmed stowage lists, or 237's inventory, it lacks the clarity I think is required for the fitout to
be as successful as possible.
ACT
If these inventories can be confirmed and signed off, from there, the mission objective is straightforward:
make the equipment fit. If we reach the point where stowage is at full capacity and items cannot be
accommodated, that’s when we’ll need to ask some questions and get direction from the people that
can make high level decisions.
I see this as a valuable opportunity for all involved to approach the challenge constructively and
collaboratively, with the aim of developing a practical, future-ready solution.
Regards,

Thanks for the reply on the relief appliance status. It would be good to know the probability of what is
available (hard to confirm, I know) and also what we would need to provide to make either a relief PRT or
pump operational.

First, I’d like to acknowledge how great it is to see the number of members in this email group with ties to the Silverdale

Regarding the Relief appliance:
We may have a Relief PRT available next week, pending the successful return of City 207 to service this afternoon.
Please note, this is currently our only Relief PRT, as we remain one short due to the Papakura accident.
Relief 408 is reasonably well equipped in terms of PRT gear, though it carries only basic firefighting equipment—
specifically Feeders and LPDs.
If Relief 408 is unavailable, the alternative would be a standard Relief pump. These typically carry Feeders and LPDs 1982
only.
ACT
I hope this provides clarity around appliance readiness. Let me know if you need further detail.
Kind Regards

Hi all,
THE
I have confirmed a T3 relief pump has been set aside for those two days with the caveat being this is to the best of our
endeavour’s unless it becomes unavailable because of operational needs taking priority between now and Monday.
Don please keep in contact with Gary Hands in the first instance and he will advise on the appliance allocated for this

work. Gary is also pencilled in to be available for those days from a fleet coordinator aspect and will lead weighing the
appliance once stowage layouts are worked thru. Gary will be doing other work at Mt Wellington training and Auckland
