Official Information Act Request
We refer to your official information request dated 13 November 2025 for the following
information:
Dear Airways Corporation of New Zealand Limited, Under the Official Information Act
1982, I would like to request a copy of any air traffic control audio recordings and/or
transcripts involving Cessna 172, registration ZK-JIP, during its flight from Whanganui
(NZWU) to Omaka (NZOM) on 1 September 2024.
Details:
Date: Sunday, 1 September 2024
Aircraft: Cessna 172, ZK-JIP
Route: Whanganui (NZWU) → Omaka (NZOM)
Request: Any available ATC communications between ZK-JIP and Airways NZ sectors
(approach mandatory broadcast zones ) during that flight.
I also understand and respect the rebroadcasting restrictions under the
Radiocommunications Act 1989 and confirm that any audio provided would be used
for personal and private reference only.

Unfortunately, we do not hold the information you requested, as it falls well beyond our
retention timeframe, which is limited to three months. Our systems automatically overwrite
historical audio and data once the retention period has elapsed. As a result, there is no
recoverable data remaining in our archives.
We are therefore refusing your request under section 18(g) of the OIA, as the information is
not held.
