Official Information Act request relating to Information about historical ministerial
residences
Thank you for your request made under the Official Information Act (the Act), received on
6 November 2025. You requested:
“
I’m requesting information on the former Ministerial residences owned by the New
Zealand government.
Specifically
A) How many former Ministerial Residences have been sold? Please list addresses
and approximate date of sale/disposal.
B) In respect to 30 Forres Street in Seatoun, please list Ministerial occupants if such
records exist.
C) Does DPMC or any other government department retain records of allocations of
Ministerial residences?”
The Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet does not hold information relating to your
request. I believe such information is more closely connected with the functions of, or more
likely to be held by, the Department of Internal Affairs (DIA). Accordingly, I have decided to
transfer your request to the DIA under section 14(b) of the Act.
The DIA has the usual timeframes under the Act from receipt of this transfer to make a decision
on your request.
