Official Information Act request: Appointment of Fale Andrew Lesā 
 
Thank you for your email of 16 September 2025 to the Ministry of Justice (the Ministry), 
requesting information under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act), regarding Fale 
Andrew Lesā. Specifically, you requested:  
1.  Whether Andrew Lesā has been, or is being, appointed to the role of Visiting Justice 
for prisons. If he is appointment, please explain why in detail. 
2.   Whether Mr Lesā’s Justice of the Peace (JP) warrant, including his entitlement to 
use the post-nominal “JP,” has been revoked. If not, why not? Please provide a 
detailed explanation. 
In response to your request, I can confirm that at this time Mr Lesā still holds appointments 
as both a Visiting Justice and a Justice of the Peace. 
 
Please note that at the request of the Associate Minister of Justice, the Ministry is 
investigating complaints and media concerns regarding Mr Lesā and expect that the Minister 
will make an announcement in relation to that in the near future.
